Frequently Asked Questions

  • No. Kinwise collects no student data. There are no student accounts, no student profiles, and no information stored that is tied to an individual student's identity. The product is teacher-facing only.

  • In a classroom recording, student voices may be incidentally present in the audio. Those voices are transcribed as part of the classroom audio for the purpose of generating teacher coaching feedback. Students are never identified, labeled, or stored as data subjects. Kinwise does not create or maintain any record associated with an individual student.

  • Kinwise is designed to align with FERPA obligations. We do not collect educational records, do not build student profiles, and do not share classroom content with unauthorized parties. Schools and districts that wish to deploy Kinwise formally should contact us to discuss a data processing agreement.

  • This depends on your school or district policy. Because Kinwise captures audio-only recordings and does not collect or retain student data, many schools treat it similarly to other professional development recording tools. We recommend consulting your district's privacy officer to determine what notification, if any, is required. We provide a sample family notice upon request.

  • All audio is encrypted in transit using TLS 1.3 and at rest using AES-256, both on the Kinwise platform and at AssemblyAI. AssemblyAI holds SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, and PCI-DSS Level 1 certifications. Kinwise is a pilot-stage product and does not yet hold independent certifications; we are actively building toward SOC 2 Type 2 compliance.

  • AssemblyAI (transcription), LLama (AI model powering Cindi), Supabase (database and storage), Clerk (authentication), and Netlify (hosting). All are contractually prohibited from using your data for their own purposes, including AI training.

  • Kinwise's coaching is grounded in a knowledge base covering seven domains of effective teaching practice. It draws on the underlying research that informs how effective coaching and instruction are understood across the field, including work on instructional coaching effectiveness (Kraft et al., 2018), collective teacher efficacy (Hattie, 2016), relational trust in schools (Bryk & Schneider, 2002), and growth mindset (Dweck, 2006). It also incorporates North Carolina and Maryland state teaching standards, including the NC Professional Teaching Standards and NC FELD, as well as research on accomplished teaching that underpins National Board Certification standards.

  • Yes, for teachers with three or more years of experience. Kinwise includes a coaching pathway oriented toward the research on accomplished teaching that underpins National Board Certification standards. This appears as an optional goal area during onboarding for eligible teachers.

  • Contact us at lydia@kinwise.org. We will walk you through the pilot structure, provide a sample family notice if needed, and discuss a data processing agreement if your district requires one.
